Apply for a Credit Card to Rebuild Credit - It can be a challenging process to rebuild credit after bankruptcy, as it can stay on a credit report for ten years. This can make it difficult to qualify for an auto loan or mortgage loan and the cost of borrowing money can be much higher. It is possible to rebuild credit by following a few simple tips, that requires the use of a credit card. There exists many lenders who are willing to offer a card to people who need to repair their credit.
Often, Americans just need to opt for a secured card. With this card, money is put into an account to get a credit limit equal to that sum of money. The money in the account acts as collateral. In the event the bill is not paid, the company can seize the “security” posted. Before applying for a secured card, make sure the lender reports to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. If they do not, the card will do nothing to help improve scores, because lenders will not have a record. A word of caution, make sure the card does not charge a huge fee, and make sure it is a card that can convert to an unsecured card after a period of time. Of course, for it to convert, the person using the card should have demonstrated responsible behavior.
For those who can qualify for an unsecured card, it could have a high interest rate, but getting the best card offers may not be possible. Carry a small balance where the high interest rate won’t be a detriment to you, and pay it off every month. By doing this, it will help to rebuild credit. When applying for new cards, refrain from applying for too at one time. Ten percent of credit scores are determined by the number of inquiries on reports. Each time there is an application for new credit or a credit line increase, the company makes an inquiry. This can lower scores and the average age of credit history.
Use all cards wisely, whether secured or unsecured. Review your budget for a small expense that could be charged each month, and pay it off immediately. A history of making payments on time is essential to rebuilding credit. Payment history accounts for 35 percent of a credit score. By making a small monthly charge and paying it off religiously, will start you on your way to better credit. By keeping a low balance, it can have a positive affect on debt-to-credit ratio. The amount of available credit used, accounts for about 30% of a score. Having a low debt-to-credit ratio, will reflect favorably on a credit report.
It could help to become an authorized signer, if there is a willing friend or relative with good credit, who will help you build a better score. As an authorized signer on an account, that account displays on your credit report as if it were your own. Therefore, the card’s history of any on time payments can make your payment history look good. If the card has a high limit and low balance, this is favorable as far as your debt to credit ratio. If it is an older card, it extends the average age of accounts. To be an authorized signer, the cardholder does not even have to give access to the actual card or account, but only to list the signer. There is no need to apply or to provide a social security number or personal information.
Check credit reports often to make sure everything is correct. Any debts discharged in bankruptcy should not be showing as open or overdue. If they are, contact the lender and the credit bureau to correct the mistakes. Keep all papers associated with any bankruptcy to send to lenders or collectors who may try to collect on a discharged debt. By using credit wisely when borrowing, it is easy to improve credit, even though it will take time and effort.

American Express News - Travel Tips for Businesses:
* Security: Companies should provide guidance to their travelers for the range of areas associated with security, such as how to prepare for a trip, what to do during a trip, and after travel, particularly when traveling to high-risk destinations. Guidance around what to do during a travel emergency or disruption should also not go overlooked in policies, as well as information on security around company assets.
* Fees: Addressing the various fees that travelers are confronted with while on the road remains a policy opportunity. It should be made easier on travelers in understanding what is reimbursable as well as being made aware of waived fees and other benefits associated with booking with preferred suppliers, such as free checked baggage on airlines or complimentary wi-fi as part of a hotel rate.
* Hotel Compliance: Safety and security rank at the top of the list of reasons for traveler compliance to hotel policy. Knowing the city to which a traveler is headed is only half of the equation, particularly when locating travelers in an emergency. This area also poses the greatest area of leakage in travel policy, compromising negotiated rates when booking hotels outside of policy. Companies should communicate to travelers the reasons for booking hotels at the same time as air reservations.
* Mobile Technology: There have been advancements in travel technology that can help business travelers manage trip details before, during and after traveling. Company supported mobile applications can be used to facilitate communication, both during critical issues like travel emergencies and for day-to-day support, including policy and traveler benefits notifications. A successful travel policy should include rules for these resources, and help travelers find and take advantage of them to save time and increase compliance.
* Addressing Lowest Logical Airfare: Companies increasingly have introduced language instructing employees to find the lowest fare possible, regardless of whether or not a flight is with a preferred supplier. The reality of this practice is that the individual trip savings by booking cheaper fares with non-preferred airlines can jeopardize negotiated rates, unintentionally driving up overall travel costs over time. Guidelines should be established indicating when this practice should be used. Recent capacity constraints, merger and acquisition activity, and even low-cost carrier dynamics require that travel managers revisit this concept and communicate it appropriately in policy.

Discover News - Discover Makes 5-Year, $10 Million Investment to Get Financial Education into Schools; Will bring financial education to thousands of classrooms across the country and reach more than 500,000 students
Discover Financial Services announced it is making a five-year, $10 million investment to get financial education curriculum into public high schools across the country.
Through its new program, Pathway to Financial Success, Discover is providing grants to high schools to cover the cost of implementing a personal finance course, giving them access to a standards-based curriculum and offering teachers the training they need to deliver it.
Statistics show that a majority of Americans lack the knowledge to make good financial decisions. In a National Bureau of Economic Research study, adults scored a grade of “C” in financial literacy while high school students failed. A recent poll by Sallie Mae showed that 84 percent of high school students said they needed more education on financial management topics, yet only 12 states require a personal finance course before graduation.
Personal finances aren't being taught at home either. Experts say many parents feel more comfortable talking to their children about sex, drugs and alcohol than about money. As part of its financial education investment, Discover is launching a public service announcement “Awkward Conversations” in February to encourage parents to have the money talk with their teens, and raise awareness of the need for financial education.

If I use a debit card to make a purchase can the merchant put a temporary "block" or "hold" on other funds in my account? Yes, in certain circumstances, merchants can take these steps as protection against fraud, errors or other losses. One common situation involves a hotel putting a hold on a certain amount when you use a debit card (or credit card) to reserve a room. Another example is when you use your debit card at the gas pump. Typically, the gas station will create two transactions - the first to get approval from your bank for an estimated purchase amount (let's say $50) when you swipe your card before pumping gas, the second for the actual charges when you're done. Until the first ($50) transaction is cancelled by the bank, usually within 48 hours, you wouldn't have access to that amount in your account.
